Author, & Retired Boston Transit Cop, Bill Fleming, Interview WOTS 023

Welcome to today’s show. I am interviewing Bill Fleming. Bill is the author of CODE BLACK a great historical fiction set around a terrorist attack on the Boston transit system. Bill was the Lt. Commander of MSTA so his knowledge and experience on the subject matter is without question...

About the author

William Fleming is an expert in areas of law enforcement and public transportation and is an advisor to the National Academy of Sciences. He is the author of Code Black (A fiction about terrorist striking the transit system). He served on the Transit Police as a Lieutenant Commander.   He has served as the Acting Chief of the Department and as Deputy Chief of the Investigative Services Division.   He co-authored the MSTA’s security plan and is a member of Terrorism Task Force.   In addition, is a consultant to the National Academy of Sciences for all transit security projects.

Fleming holds a BS in Political Science from Boston State College, an MS in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College, and a certificate from the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management’s Command Training Program.

Fleming has served on the Attorney General’s Task Force on Racial Profiling, the Massachusetts Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Professional Development Sub-committee of the American Public Transit Association Committee on Public Safety.   He has lectured for the Terrorism Research Center, the Federal Transit Administration, and the Boston Police Department.

About the book

Winner of the 2016 Indie Excellence Award for Crime Fiction! When terrorists apparently strike one of Boston’s MBTA transit stations during the famed St. Patrick’s Day parade, the onslaught of federal and state officials turn the city into a chaotic police state. Only a veteran transit cop, jaded by his memories of growing up in the shadows of Boston’s forced busing and desegregation, knows the truth: The enemy is not some international terrorist cell but the politics and hubris that continually pit the haves and have-nots against each other in one of the country’s oldest and most congested cities. Code Black delves into the many contradictions that shape Boston: wealth and poverty, liberal and conservative, academia and working-class, and even black and white. Recipient of third place in the 2015 Public Safety Writer’s Association contest, Code Black is an historical fiction thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.
