She speaks throughout the country and abroad on police marriage, and works with Hunting For Heroes’ marriage conference, the VOWS Retreat. Her third book, A Marriage in Progress–Tactical Support for Law Enforcement Relationships, was released December 2015. It is written for law enforcement officers, looking at relationships through the eyes of police culture and training. Mrs. Newman is also a regular contributor to Law Officer magazine.

Mrs. Newman has operated a book consulting business for the past thirteen years, collaborating, editing, and rewriting works on business practices, prison survival, special needs children, marriage, and a memoir from a World War II prisoner of war. About the books

How2LoveYourCop provides positive resources that support not only the family, but the police career as well. We are led by a belief that when there is back-up at home, the officer is empowered to excel on duty. With nearly 30 years of hands-on experience in marriage, law enforcement community, mentoring, crisis assistance, and leadership, we are passionate about educating, networking, and investing in an area that is difficult, complex, and according to projections on divorce rates, failing.

How2LoveYourCop is led by Victoria Newman, but is not a one-person operation. She is assisted by an army of voices, volunteers, contractors, and prayer partners who come alongside to help create resources for law enforcement families.

We work alongside departments, peer support programs, associations, individuals, chaplaincies, counselors, peace officer and spouse organizations and faith-based ministries. We provide powerful perspectives, tried-and-true solutions, and collective wisdom to encourage, enrich, and empower law enforcement relationships.

A CHiP on my Shoulder – How to Love Your Cop with Attitude.

Praised for its simplicity and encouraging style, this book has received support from law enforcement leaders from all over the United States, counselors, officers and their spouses, chaplains, and even extended family members of peace officers. Written specifically for spouses, yet there are reports that officers enjoy the straightforward style as well.

A Marriage in Progress – Tactical Support for Law Enforcement Relationships.

The law enforcement training manual for off-duty life. Written specifically to and for officers, Victoria looks at relationships through principles and examples of police training and culture. It includes positive perspectives, real stories, encouragement, practical tools, and personal examples for how to improve your personal life as a member of law enforcement. Over 1,000 police family members spoke into this book.

 Selfish Prayer.

This book documents the journey of a Medevac unit in Afghanistan in 2009 and beyond. Co-written by Victoria and a California National Guard Silver Star recipient/retired police officer, the book ventures into the actions, thoughts and emotions of a warrior. Thought-provoking reading for Military, Police, Fire, Rescue, and Medical Personnel, and their families.

Paramedic/ Author Jon McCarthy Interview WOTS 018

Welcome everyone. Today I am interviewing Jon McCarthy. Jon’s new book HARD ROLL has been released by Pelican Press and is a paramedics perspective of Life and Death in the city of New Orleans. Jon and I share common roots in the Big Easy as paramedics and have written along similar lines. Let’s dig into Jon’s inspiration and process and see what brought him and his work to this point.

About the author

Born the son of a police officer in the small town of Crawfordville, Florida, Jon McCarthy began his public service as an active duty member of the United States Coast Guard in 1990. Six years later, he entered the world of emergency medical services and has worked for 20 years as a paramedic. He is one of the architects of the New Orleans EMS Field Training Officer program, where he oversaw the program for five years as the Lead Field Training Officer. His book, Hard Roll: A Paramedic’s Perspective of Life and Death in New Orleans gives readers an inside look into the chaos of EMS and the toll the job of a first responder takes on those who serve.

Jon currently resides in New Orleans with his wife, two sons and a multitude of pets, where he spends his off days trying to write his way into the next chapter of his life.

 About the book

Known as one of America’s most dangerous cities, New Orleans plays host to incidents ranging from the tragic and disturbing to the completely bizarre—and during his career as an emergency medic, Jon McCarthy saw it all. He chronicles some of the most formative calls of his career in this autobiography that reads like crime fiction. McCarthy demonstrates with detail and clarity that the difficult choice is often the right choice. While not for the faint of heart, each entry in this collection provides poignant insight into the bonds between medics and the people and city they serve.

Artist/ Cartoonist Jessie Senini Interview WOTS 016

Welcome to another great show. Please contact us with ideas comments or recommendations……..

About the author

Jessie Senini is a clinical research paramedic and recovering art student with more than a decade of EMS experience with private, municipal and federal EMS agencies. Having traveled across the country to live in Louisiana, a state with no snow, Senini now draws from her experiences on the truck to bring humor and awareness to life and issues surrounding emergency services. Senini truly believes that laughter is the best medicine and hopes to continue to treat those around her through comics.

About the art

Jessie Senini has spent her entire life surrounded by the arts. From a young age, she was painting before she could even write. Inspired by her father, John Senini, and his historic paintings of the Civil War, Jessie learned to develop her own unique style and inspiration- drawing from her travel experiences and love for adventure.

After high school, a spontaneous trip to Europe inspired Jessie Senini to study and major in Art History. She spent some time following her BA working for the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman Montana before pursuing a career in EMS as a paramedic. She now resides in New Orleans and is finishing additional training at Tulane University in Graphic and Digital Design.

About the blog

Nola Lush is a blog dedicated to everything being “lush” entails.  There is no finer city in the world than New Orleans that encapsulates what it means to both be lush… and to be a lush.  Our rich food, music, lifestyle, and festivals keep our city constantly thrumming with a bounding cacophony of brass, second lines, and parades.

But even through all of that, you can find a quite in this city.  Whether you are walking through City Park and the NoMa, kayaking on Bayou St John, strolling through the Marigny with your latte, or whatever you may be doing- the beat of New Orleans still hums all around you.

The world of New Orleans is different when you are a transplant. Everything is new and foreign.  But be careful… because once you drink more than one Hurricane at Pat O’Brien’s, you may just end up with an apartment here.
